Meet Our Team

Aviva Thurgood

Physiotherapist

Aviva Thurgood has always loved people and movement. Graduating with a B.A in Human Movement Studies Sport Science in 2005 and then a B.Sc in Physiotherapy in 2011 has meant that she gets to combine what she loves in her work every day. Her treatment goals are individualistically and holistically based with the aim to empower patients to live their best lives. Her passion with working in water led her to qualify as a WATSU® Practitioner (WABA) having completed her WATSU® 1, 2 and 3 levels as well as doing the Advanced International Aquatic Therapy Techniques courses through Peggy Schroedinger and the Evidence Based Aquatic Physiotherapy Foundation Course run by the SASP. She has done numerous other courses in physiotherapy including OMT, Dry Needling and Strapping. Outside of physiotherapy, Aviva also holds a Second Dan in full contact Karate and is a pilates, spinning and curves instructor too.

Kara Droomer

Physiotherapist

Kara Droomer completed her studies at the University of Stellenbosch in 2015. She then moved all over the country and worked in different settings and different practices where she gained a number of skills and clinical reasoning. She completed her Advanced International Aquatic Therapy Techniques course under Peggy Schroedinger and is a WATSU® Practitioner (WABA) having completed her WATSU® level 1, 2 and 3. Techniques that she uses in the water include advanced aquatic therapy exercises, Bad Ragaz and Halliwik. Additionally Kara completed her Dry Needling, Strapping and Pilates courses to further help her patients get the best outcome. Kara enjoys all aspects of the field, whether it is working with neurological disorders, orthopaedic disorders, women's health, geriatrics or children. She strives for excellence and always aims to achieve her patient`s goals.

Celia Truter (van Zyl)

Physiotherapist

Celia Truter (van Zyl) has always had a passion for helping people move well and a deep love for water physiotherapy. She completed her BSc in Physiotherapy at the University of Stellenbosch in 2025 and her Community Service year in the rural Eastern Cape, working in both hospital and outpatient settings. She will complete her WATSU® Basic, Level 1 and Level 2 training in 2026 and is also a Pilates Instructor. Her postgraduate training includes Pilates (mat, ball, and barre), Dry Needling Level 1, and Strapping, allowing her to integrate both land- and water-based rehabilitation. Celia enjoys working with geriatrics, neurological rehabilitation, sports injuries, and pelvic floor/women’s health, following a holistic, patient-centred approach that treats the whole person rather than just the injury. Outside of physiotherapy, she enjoys adventure racing, playing classical guitar, and making music.

Sue Gipel

Practice Manager

Our practice manager Sue has been managing physiotherapy practices for the last 12 years. From the moment you first call our practice, you will feel held as Sue guides you through the process of booking an appointment and answers your questions with warmth and humour, you`ll feel her smile through the phone. Any queries about accounts or appointments are all dealt with with sensitivity, attention to detail, efficiency and the utmost respect. Sue is the glue that holds our team together in her calm, kind and professional way.
